Growth charts from the beginning have been one of the most prominent aspects of well-care visits for young children- they include the child’s weight, height and head circumference. As parents of young children, we spend a lot of time thinking about and talking about children’s growth- how much does my child weigh? How long or tall are they? What do those percentiles that your pediatrician tell you really mean? On this solo episode, I am going to share my knowledge of the history of children’s growth charts, what the numbers actually mean and why it’s a tool that is more relevant in clinical use rather than designed to create worry and anxiety for caregivers.
