On this special episode of the Baby Steps Nutrition Podcast, Argavan speaks with Dr. Alison Miller, a developmental psychologist who studies risk and resilience in relation to health outcomes in children and families. Dr. Miller is a Professor in the Department of Health Behaviour and Health Education (HBHE) at the University of Michigan School of Public Health. She received her PhD at the University of Michigan and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Brown Medical School Department of Psychiatry- the Division of Child and Family Psychiatry. Dr. Miller collaborates with colleagues at Brown Medical School, the University of Colorado at Boulder, and Michigan State University. Dr. Miller’s research focuses on factors that shape a child’s physical and mental health outcomes, including child factors, family factors, and social-contextual factors. By doing so, she translates developmental science into intervention to foster positive child health and mental health outcomes. Argavan and Dr. Miller discuss the role of Acute Childhood Experiences (ACEs) on a child's growth and development, the social determinants of health that impact a child's health across the lifespan, parental attachment styles and so much more!
