A discussion about women’s health should include gut health, hormonal cycle and nutrition status as critical factors in performance ability, prevention of injury and recovery from injury should it occur. Did you know that we need to be supporting the different phases of our menstrual cycle by varying the foods we eat and the type of exercises we do? On this insightful episode of the Baby Steps Nutrition Podcast, Argavan speaks with Abby Grimm, a functionally trained performance dietitian located in Cleveland, Ohio. Abby works in private practice for FWDfuel Sports Nutrition, where she guides individuals on using lifestyle and food as medicine to optimize their health and performance. She specializes in working with females who suffer from hormone imbalances, menstrual irregularities, and poor gut health. After spending years working through her own hormone and gut issues Abby is on a mission to help women understand their female physiology, in particular, the critical role female hormones and the menstrual cycle play in not only fitness goals, but overall human health. Abby obtained her Bachelor of Science from the University of Dayton, her Master of Science in Nutrition from Case Western Reserve University and she completed her dietetic internship at University Hospitals in Cleveland, Ohio. Argavan and Abby discuss the most common women’s health issues Abby encounters with her clients, how stress and other lifestyle factors affect hormonal health and how women would benefit from adjusting workouts and nutrition around their menstrual cycles. Furthermore, Argavan and Abby dive into the latest diet fads/trends and why they may or may not be recommended. A not to be missed episode!
