Episode 4: Detoxing Your Home

Episode Summary

Disclaimer: it’s important to do your own research, speak to your healthcare provider, and make decisions that are best for you and your family. This is for informational purposes only, and should not be taken as medical advice. Today, we are digging deep, getting to the bottom of what could be making us sick (and we might not even know it!). Most of us, when we think about our health, we think of exercise and food. But do we really ever consider what toxins can be in our homes that re making us “feel not quite right?”. The truth is, our homes can be filled with over 500 chemicals! There is even a term that is being used to describe this- Toxic Home Syndrome (THS). If you are experiencing fatigue, memory impairment, inflammatory conditions like gout and eczema, infertility and/or depression to name a few, it may be THS. You may be wondering- but aren’t our liver, kidney and lympathic system doing their job to remove harmful chemicals from our body? The problem is- the amount we are exposed to on a daily basis; from the water we drink, foods we eat, air we breathe and on top of that, the products we use in our homes for cleaning and personal care, are overwhelming our detoxification system. On this episode of Baby Steps Nutrition Podcast, Argavan speaks with Valentine Smith, a mama of 4 children who previously worked in the hospitality industry. When her children were younger, she became determined to use as many natural remedies as possible. She had her own lightbulb moment when it came to her own health. That’s when she decided to become a conscious consumer and live as toxin-free as possible. In this episode, Argavan and Valentine talk about “greenwashing” and how marketers are duping consumers into believing their products are safe to use . They discuss the frustration families face with an overwhelming selection of food and health products either online or in-store and better options to choose instead. Furthermore, Argavan and Valentine provide parents with tips to help detoxify the body safely, including incorporating high quality and rigorously tested essential oils into the daily self care regimen. Tune in to listen to the story of one mama’s quest to help her family feel better naturally.
