The U.S. spends more on health care than any other high-income country but has the lowest life expectancy and the highest rates of suicide, chronic disease and obesity. Each year, the average U.S. resident pays over $1000 out-of-pocket for health care, which includes expenses like copayments for doctor’s visits and prescription drugs or health insurance deductibles. Clearly, something is seriously broken! On this episode of Baby Steps Nutrition Podcast, Argavan speaks with Dr. Kylie Burton, a licensed chiropractor and a functional medicine expert based in Utah. Dr. Burton graduated inn 2012 with her bachelor’s degree in Nutrition. In 2017, she graduated from the University of Western States with her Doctorate of Chiropractic, She further pursued a Certificate in Functional Medicine from Functional Medicine University (FMU). She is also a mom of 2 young kids (4 and 1 year old), and the founder and host of her own podcast, Beyond the Diagnosis with Dr. Kylie, In this episode, Argavan and Dr. Kylie discuss what functional medicine is and why knowledge is power, what to look for in a standard lab test obtained during a routine check up (it’s not what you think!) and how to look beyond diagnosis and labels and treat conditions at the source for optimal health and well being.
