Episode 156- U4U: Rethinking Connection for Teen Girls

Episode Summary

What does it mean to grow up as a teenage girl today—and how can we create spaces that help girls feel more confident, connected, and supported? In this episode of the Baby Steps Nutrition Podcast, I sit down with the founders of U4U, a social wellness platform created specifically for teen girls. U4U is designed for girls ages 11–18 as an alternative to traditional social media, with an emphasis on building confidence, healthy habits, meaningful relationships, and a stronger sense of self. We talk about the unique challenges facing teen girls today—from social media and comparison to friendships, body image, stress, identity, and the need to belong. We also explore why adolescence is such an important time for developing confidence and emotional skills, and how parents can support girls while still giving them room to develop their own voices and independence. The founders share the story behind U4U and how they are approaching technology differently. Rather than likes, followers, and endless scrolling, the platform centers around four areas of development: Self, Connection, Culture, and Environment.
