We discussed the Ouchless Project in Episode #14 with Cathy Taylor. Cathy, a mom of an almost 10 year old boy, had a traumatic experience when her son received emergency care as a 3 year old child. Cathy realized that in Marin County, where she lives, the emergency care facilities lacked the equipment and expertise to treat pediatric patients hence the Ouchless Project was born. Today’s guest, Michelle Tracy, has been instrumental in implementing this pediatric emergency room program when she was Director of Emergency Services and Trauma at MarinHealth. She continues to raise awareness about Ouchless in her community and beyond. As both Cathy and Michelle have quoted, “I couldn’t have done it without her and she couldn’t have done it without me”. Argavan speaks with Michelle, a Registered Nurse for almost 30 years, who has worn many hats, including Director, Educator, Project Manager and Consultant in acute care settings. Michelle has been widely recognized and praised for training her staff using the Ouchless Care Model, leading to MarinHealth becoming Emergency Department Approved for Pediatrics in April 2018. Michelle shares the harrowing day that changed the trajectory for her as a mother and nurse, the journey to where she is now and her vision for the future of the Ouchless Care Model for all healthcare facilities.
